and welcome to this technology tutorial for mrs. Tanner's Ela classes this year I have the privilege of teaching 6 and 7th grade and I will be work 2 amazing teachers in r coach classes mrs. green we working with me in 6th grade in mrs. F tank will be working with me in 7th grade so let's go over a few of the really need to know technology pieces to help make this year more manageable for all of us there are three apps that you and your child will use all the time to ask this that them you need to go through what we call class Link in class link I like to think of as a grocery store you have to go in the grocery store class link to a that's all of these other apps are rarely very rarely will you access one of these apps on your homepage sometimes they are there but you for the most part you will need to go through class link to access these out the first app is PowerSchool PowerSchool simply put is our online gradebook where you would find all of your classes the grades the assignments it is your responsibility to go on there and to check that often to make sure but you and your teachers for any class or on the same page by way of assignments and grades and what you're thinking that you turned in and what your teacher has recorded it's going to list all of your classes and then for each class you can look at the assignment mine is going to look different so I'm not going to open that cuz I don't want to confuse you the next big app that you're going to be working with is our online Ela curriculum or textbook for this year it called Sadie sink and as you can see this app is not called studysync but you have to access studysync through an app called connect ed connect edit the parent company they also make our socialist text book so go to connect ed see here's our social studies and you want to launch studysync studysync that's our Ela textbook and then you want to watch it again make sure they don't on this one that you press in between all of those little dots to launch it or else it won't launch it for some reason so here we are it should say welcome back and then your child's name it will have the assignments here it will have all of the texts that will be reading us students will submit assignments through studysync but this is studysync our Lounge app is called schoology schoology is a place for teachers to upload information notes Etc your students dashboard should look something like this oops only go back where it would have all of their classes now I have two sections of every. So mine my gas was going to look a little differently you're the first. I've tried to organize this in a very easy way so the students will be able to navigate it easily first we have an attendance file this is where the students will go every single day for ELA and do an attendance question we have this organized by weeks will put the the next week up there tonight and then send that file that it'll have the days so that also we have a file for group a and Group B group a or my are Monday Tuesday kiddos at school and remote days are Wednesday Thursday Friday Wednesday Thursday at school and Monday Tuesday Friday are remote days it was in these files is where you would find all of their important Simon's or work or anything that we want to upload for the students delicious go into group a here you would find that first assignment of bench watching Island of the Blue Dolphins there's an assignment for this week in there at skills also quizzes and four assessments would be here we had a quiz on Friday I am going to start posting our weekly learning plan here just as a quick reference we have a file for Khan Academy with the students will need this week this right here the remote classroom link is there first go to for the beginning of the week is specially on their remote days so what you want to do to access this is not click here where it says remote classroom but go down to the next line where it says click here that will take you right to our remote classroom now I have two of these one for 6th grade here's my self and here's mrs. green and then I have one for 7th grade where I am sporting a very dashing move here with mrs. eftink here we have some live links class PowerSchool if you need email address are CMS homepage those are live links and then also right here a quick easy I'm reference to go right to their learning plan so let's say I was in group b I would click there and it would take me right to group bees learning plan that's mrs. green right there this is a PowerPoint so just use your arrows to go to the next line so here is the learn plans for this week the learning plans are going to be just a snapshot of a bird's-eye view rather of what we're going to be doing for the week but it doesn't give a lot of detail so since students need that the following slides will have greater detail I will always start off by listing the unit are driving question for that unit in the standard that we are over for that week today is Labor day so no no school no assignments this is what they're going to need to do for their remote day so as you can see instructions to walk them through step-by-step is to what they're supposed to do think about this is a check-off sheet so first do this then do this then look at PowerSchool then complete assignment we're going to talk about no red ink in a minute and then go to study sink and do the clothes free to buy on the Blue Dolphin I try to help the students navigate where to go where to find it what to do using Arrows by taking screenshots if you go to the next line it'll actually have because I only want them to do two different sections in the in study sync the vocabulary and the read and own three questions here so that kind of explains that again this is a remote day so somehow choose as you can see it looks different here why because on this day the students are going to be with us in class so we don't have to be as detailed and then Friday once again not a lot of details because they're here with us in class this is a slide showing how to access studysync if they forgot and then how to contact us here and then here's mrs. green okay so that is our remote classroom that is going to be your go-to every morning on those remote days another. important feature of schoology is this feature called updates updates is my communication to my students it's a little sticky notes so here we have lots of little sis you know song remember this don't forget excetera so you can see all of the little bits of communication that I've wanted to have with the students please go through this parents you have access to schoology so you can also read through these little reminders when you were your student reads these please have them like it that only not only makes me feel popular but can see how many students are reading these little updates okay so this really should stay in important information from mrs. Tanner instead of an update but I can't change that so those are my updates this year we are going to we are going to be using two online resources the first online resource is called no red ink in the weekly learning plan. I will shorten to say n RI and Ri so I we spent the last two weeks two or three weeks to get all of the students account activated and have them assigned to a class so here you can all of my classes and we are on our second assignment so our first assignment was entitled it's an it if they have not done that yet still do it most importantly I want to make sure the mechanics of things are working so I want them to know not only how to get into no red ink which I've asked them to book Mark or put it the favorite on their desktop are there home page or even put as an app so they can get to it quickly so you don't have to Google it every time just to get in there make sure they know how to assign it I mean not to submit it assignment for this week is a Syma number to a versus an so those are the two assignments and that is no red ink may or may not have just depends on kind of our work clothes for our curriculum but it'll always say that on our weekly learning plan the other online resource is called Khan Academy once again students are these last all these last three weeks we've been establishing accounts assigning them to a specific I'm class I think at this point everyone is on and once again we have assignment and here last week and the week before we kind of use both weeks we had many assignments on growth mindset growth mindset and for this week here are the assignments you can see this is a little 5-minute video 3 minutes 3 minutes 3 minutes to after this practice then it's what I called GameDay this is why based on these little videos what are they able to demonstrate to do so that is there their game day of the actual doing a small exercise so those are no red and Khan Academy are online resources so now you know what those are and how to access them okay back to our class link that concludes our tutorial for three apps as well as our two online resources please email me with any questions that you have I know this is a frustrating time for all of us but hopefully this tutorial can get you to where you need to go for you and your students thank you and I look forward to a fantastic year
