Bell Work: Each class period will begin with Daily Grammar Practice. This activity is a unique highly successful research-based approach to help students understand, apply, and remember grammar concepts. It is designed to repeatedly review key grammar and reading concepts crucial to effective writing and preparation for high school. This week we will begin with Week Twenty-One.

 

Monday – SSR; DGP – Capitalization/Punctuation & Parts of Speech
Students will need their poetry notes for class today. They will begin a Poetry packet in class.
HW – Continue to read for the 40-book challenge. One more day remaining before library books are due to the Library.

Tuesday – SSR; DGP – Sentence Parts and Phrases
Students will turn in all library books to the library. Students will have Poetry presentations on “Dreams” by Langston Hughes. Poetry projects are due.
HW – You have a few more days to finish reading for the 40-book Challenge.
 

Wednesday – No SSR; DGP – Clauses and Sentence Parts
Review study guide questions for the Quarter 4 – Benchmark Assessment tomorrow in groups and in a whole class setting.

Alliteration Activity: Read a children’s book and identify alliteration. Students will select one alphabet and write a 5-line, two stanza poem using the same alphabet to incorporate alliteration.

Sustained silent reading (SSR) is a form of school-based recreational reading, or free voluntary reading, where students read silently in a designated time period every day in school. An underlying assumption of SSR is that students learn to read by reading constantly.

Tuesday – Students will take the answers from their questions and organize them into stanzas to write a poem. Model poem writing using my own poem. Pass out manila paper to write the final draft.

Thursday – Students will visit the Library with Mrs. Peterson. Complete a Trail assessment. Students will check out a book of pleasure in order to complete a Book Report in class at the end of Q1. The date is soon to be announced.

Each class period will begin with Daily Grammar Practice. This activity is a unique highly successful research-based approach to help students understand, apply, and remember grammar concepts. It is designed to repeatedly review key grammar and reading concepts crucial to effective writing and preparation for high school.    

Monday – Introduce Daily Grammar Practice and provide notes. Pass out vocabulary terms from the play, Light. Show a Flocabulary video for parts of speech review. Begin creating 12-word original sentences from terms.
HW – Finish creating vocabulary sentences from the play’s vocabulary terms. Study terms for Friday’s quiz.

Tuesday – Check the vocabulary sentences from all 13 terms. Complete a vocabulary practice with Light terms. Begin “Where I’m From” poem by completing Step 1 questions in class.
HW – Study vocabulary terms from Light.

Wednesday – Complete Step 1 questions in class. Write poem in class together and then work with groups. Share with groups.
HW – Study vocabulary terms for quiz on Friday.

HW – Study vocabulary terms for test tomorrow.

Friday – Completed a test over the vocabulary terms from "Life Without Light" in the Scope Scholastic magazine. Introduce the short story, “Rikki-tikki-tavi.” Discuss the Literary Analysis: Plot and show a Flocabulary video on Plot Elements. Complete a fill-in-the-blank activity from the video.

Each class period this week will begin with A Sentence A Day. This activity is a unique highly successful research-based approach to help students understand, apply, and remember grammar concepts. It is designed to repeatedly review key grammar and reading concepts crucial to effective writing and preparation for high school.  

Monday – Common Formative Assessment for Language Arts-students will read a SCOPE article (play), “The Amazing Story of how Thomas Edison Changed the World” in class and discuss.
HW – None

Tuesday – Common Formative Assessment for Language Arts-students will continue to read a SCOPE article (play) in class and discuss. Begin the non-fiction article, “Life Without Light” and discuss.
HW – None

Wednesday – Brainstorm and begin a writing assignment in class using the two articles read from the SCOPE magazine. Answer the prompt: How did the incandescent light bulb change life in America? Students will draw on information in the play, captions and photos, and the essay to support their ideas.
HW – Finish the one page essay using the two articles in the SCOPE magazine.

Thursday – Collect essays. Begin a Literary Elements and Devices activity from the drama, Light from the SCOPE magazine.
HW – None; 7th grade Curriculum Night - tonight!!

Friday – Finish the Literary Elements and Devices activity with a partner. Finish Scavenger Hunt from Friday.
HW – Have a wonderful weekend!!!

This activity is a unique highly successful research-based approach to help students understand, apply, and remember grammar concepts. It is designed to repeatedly review key grammar and reading concepts crucial to effective writing and preparation for high school.  

Monday – Pass out Welcome Back sheet. Go over rules, procedures, and expectation for class. Introduce the Time Capsule for students to complete.
HW – None

Tuesday – Brainstorm about the first day of school. Complete a word web and begin writing introductory paragraph about the First Day of School.
HW – None

Wednesday – Continue writing introductory paragraph and discuss body of the essay using the three supporting details from the word web.
HW – None

Thursday – Continue writing First Day of School essay.
HW – Finish essay

Friday – Peer edit First Day of School essay. Complete a Scavenger Hunt using the Literature textbook.
