Welcome to 6th grade science! I have been teaching middle school science for over twelve years (6 in Herkimer, New York, and 6 here in Collierville, Tennessee) and I am excited to be teaching again at Collierville Middle School! Go Dragons!

Course Description: During this school year, students will be exploring and investigating many different areas of science focusing on physical science, earth science, and life science. Students will learn about the engineering design process, energy and energy transfer, circulation in earth’s air and oceans, weather and climate, interactions of living things, earth’s biomes and ecosystems, earth’s resources, and our human impact on the environment. In order to master these disciplinary core ideas, students will be focusing on several science and engineering practices, such as asking questions and defining problems, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematics and computational thinking, constructing explanations and designing solutions, engaging in arguments from evidence, and obtaining, evaluating and communicating information.
Student skills are assessed using a variety of methods, including homework, classwork, labs, quizzes, tests and projects. Grades are determined using the school-wide scale:
Students will participate in a lab safety course within the first two weeks of school and will need a lab safety contract signed by a parent/guardian before they are allowed to conduct any labs.
I will send weekly emails to students in all my classes outlining our plan for the week. Please know that these plans are subject to change, and I will do my best to send follow-up emails if there are significant changes. If a parent would like to be added to the email list, please let me know.
Textbook: We will be using an online textbook that students may access through their iPads using our ThinkCentral app within ClassLink. The textbook can also be accessed by clicking HERE.
Contact: Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at firstname.lastname@example.org. Together we can make this a fantastic year!
