Description
Throughout this year, we will be reading many major texts and shorter texts. Our major texts are novels of different variety, and our shorter texts will come from our online platform called Study Sync. These novels and shorter texts will provide a challenge to your children's reading skills. With that being said, please be sure that they are reading every night. I will provide audios for all major texts. This will help your child with comprehension and fluency. Please take advantage! If you feel that your child needs further assistance outside of the classroom, please contact me. I am willing to come before school and stay after to make sure your child is successful!

Assignment

Students, as we discussed in class, you all will complete a poster display project. This project is due by Friday, November 16th. We will have at least one day in class to work on it. However, you need to work on this at home as well. It WILL take more than one class period to complete. Attached is the rubric and the directions for your project. Please read the rubric before you begin so you know my expectations for this project. Remember, this is to be complete on the color paper I provided you.

Assignment

Attached is a copy of the reading plan for To Kill A Mockingbird. All students have a copy. It is also in schoology for them. Please keep in mind that all students have a novel guide packet. They are to complete the chapters in the packet that are due on the reading plan. For example, they are to have chapters 10-11 read by 8/31. Therefore, they should have chapters 10-11 complete in the packet and ready to be turned in to me on 8/31.

Quick Write

Think about how both Satchel Paige and Rosa Parks represent people who rose above their circumstances while fighting the battle for equal rights. Write a short essay in which you compare and contrast Satchel Paige and Rosa Parks. How were their individual struggles similar? How were they different? Provide evidence from both texts to support your comparisons and contrasts.

I have attached the Satchel Paige and Rosa Parks passages for references.
