Tuesday IC: Students worked on grammar review with their group; Mrs. Elrod began meeting with each student for a brief writing conference to review/discuss the Q4 culminating essay that was written and submitted. Students also competed at the end of class on IXL C.3 to see who could get to a 100 first. This IXL reviewed correct pronoun usage.

Monday IC: Q4 culminating writing assessments were due today. Students did a self-evaluation of their work and then swapped papers with their peers to receive peer feedback as well. Students were provided a checklist and rubric to help them as they looked over the essays. Over the next couple days, I will meet with each student as we look over their feedback and essay together and discuss their writing strengths and weaknesses. Students were also given a pre-test on pronouns used as subjects.

Monday IC: Students finished TNReady testing today. We tested in the morning and in the afternoon, so I only saw this class for 20 minutes. They were provided a writing folder for their Q4 culminating writing assessment. Tonight, students should write their thesis for the argument essay.

Friday IC: In line with our study of Frederick Douglass, students viewed a documentary of the life of abolitionist, William Wilberforce. They were also provided a print out of biographical information on Wilberforce. They will be able to pull this information into their Q4 culminating writing assignment. Students were also provided more critical thinking questions for the FD novel. We started them in class, but the students must finish the chapter 9 questions #3 through #11.

Monday IC: the novel The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was introduced today. Students read an excerpt and then discussed it. Students then read chapter 1 of the novel together in class. After reading, students worked with their groups to create 4 bullet point key ideas of the chapter and then objectively summarized the reading with a paragraph. A reading plan was also provided in class today and a digital copy is attached as well.

Thursday IC: Students discussed Elie Wiesel's Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. We discussed THINK questions as a whole group and within our groups. Students then answered comprehension questions on the speech. At the end of class, students split into groups based on the texts they chose for their argument essay and shared claim statements.

Tuesday IC: Today, we introduced Study Sync, the new ELA all-digital text. Students were provided usernames and passwords, and then we jumped right in and did a BLAST and a lesson on annotations. Students will access Study Sync on their iPads or on any other device. They just have to log in using the web-based version, NOT the APP; I was also able to check TKAM vocabulary.
Tuesday HW: STUDY your TKAM vocabulary terms. You have an assessment on Friday with vocabulary and comprehension for chapter 1 of TKAM; READ TKAM; you must finish chapters 1-6 by tomorrow.

Tuesday IC: Students were provided the following information: email sheet, remind sheet, parent survey. Students completed a reflective/descriptive writing assignment in class today. Together, we brainstormed the positive aspects of the first day and the negative aspects of the first day of 8th grade. We then began writing our two paragraphs in class. Most students finished their rough draft of the two paragraphs. Students were provided a list of transition words to use in their writing.
